Interstate 99 Environmental Research
Project Detail

Task A

Evaluation of approved erosion and sediment controls to
determine Best Management Practice

Best Management Practices (BMPs) are defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency as a schedule of activities, prohibition of practices, maintenance procedures, and other management practices designed to prevent or reduce the pollution of air and waters of the United States.

The intent of this study “Evaluation of Approval Erosion and Sediment Controls to Determine Best Management Practice” is to develop evaluation and measurement procedures to effectively assess BMPs that are planned in conjunction with Interstate 99 (I-99) construction and identify erosion and sediment control measures that are appropriate for use in a public highway environment.  The objective is to monitor the BMPs, evaluate them for the purpose of large-scale road construction, and develop a method of selecting the appropriate set of BMPs.  The evaluation of approved BMPs is comprised of two tasks:

Task A-1 Monitoring Selected Filed Sites
Task A-2 Evaluation of BMPs based on Data Collection
