Site BEC1, J-hook vane, bank regrading, and rock toe protection
May 16, 2006
Mitigation work at the BEC1 site consisted of regrading and stabilizing stream banks, planting riparian vegetation, construction of in-stream rock structures to direct flow away from the stream banks, and fencing the stream area to prevent livestock impacts.
The left bank of the stream was eroding, causing bank instability and producing a sediment load to the stream. The banks were regraded and a rock toe was added on the left bank to provide stability. The J-hook rock vane shown helps to direct flow through the bend towards the center of the stream, away from the left bank.
