Site BEC1, evolution of a gravel bar
May 16, 2006
Mitigation work at the BEC1 site consisted of regrading and stabilizing stream banks, planting riparian vegetation, construction of in-stream rock structures to direct flow away from the stream banks, and fencing the stream area to prevent livestock impacts.
Through the low flow periods in the summer of 2005, a gravel bar formed at the confluence of Bald Eagle Creek and Bell Hollow Run. Over the summer, vegetation established on this bar. By April 2006, high flow events had eliminated the gravel bar (note gravel deposition on the left bank, shown on the right side of the April, 2006 photo).
