Task D

April 1, 2005

Under Task D of the I-99 Environmental Monitoring Project, stream restoration work will be monitored and evaluated to assess the effectiveness of the restoration techniques. Key items used in determining the effectiveness of the restoration will include stream stability, successful establishment of streamside and floodplain vegetation, and the presence of key wildlife habitat indicators.

By the completion of construction, restoration work will have occurred at four locations along North Bald Eagle Creek and at two locations on Reese Hollow Run, a tributary to North Bald Eagle Creek. From December, 2004 through April, 2005, specific monitoring locations were selected at the six restoration sites and a detailed monitoring plan was implemented. Monitoring will include tabulation of a range of specific parameters at each location, including stream channel geometry, stream flow and sediment transport estimates, plant survivability, erosion and deposition within the channel, and wildlife presence.
